Day 2 at Camp

Filed under: Uncategorized — coalfieldwriterscamp @ 6:22 pm

Today is the second day of Creative Writing Camp.  We continued our theme of “family” today.  Activities were a letter writing project, that Coalfield Writers Teacher Consultant Judy Southard lead.  Another activity they did was create “mail boxes” of their own design, and students used them today, and will use them all week to send “positive” postcards to each other when they hear a good piece of writing.  We read When the Relatives Came and did a writing, and we also read My Rotten Read Headed Brother and did a piece of writing from that.  There were mini lessons on adjectives, parts of speech, and letter writing.  We’ve reviewed the camp songs and closed out the afternoon by playing a LIFE STORIES game.  In this game the object is to land on a space, draw a card from the pile that matches the space, and tell the kind of story that the card calls for.  We had a couple students absent today, and one who was absent yesterday came today.  Our counselor, Brittany B was absent today because she’s sick and we missed her.  Overall it is a TERRIFIC day at camp.

Dear Papaw,

a lot has happened since you left for Iraq.  We have been very stressed and depressed.  We miss you alot!  Iam and Mallory’s b-day part was really fun.  Shrek 3 is hilarious.  I think my life would be better with you in it instead of you leaving.  I remember the times we had before you signed up for the army.  I remember you were stressed and you forgot I was in the truck.  I wasn’t out there for long, but I missed you when that seemed like a long time.  It seems as I grow up the times seem longer and longer when you are away from me.  Well, I better start counting the days till you come home.

Till you come get me out of the truck, Brittany

P.S.  Iraq:  No fun!

Dear Uncle Buddy,

How the years have flown by us.  Now you have two grandsons and one granddaughter.  Why did we stop visiting each other?  We haven’t seen each other for about a year.  I hope this year we see each other more often.

From your favorite nephew, Matt.

P.S. I was kidding about the favorite

P.S.S. I am the best nephew

Dear Mammaw M.

Hi!  I’m writing this letter for creative writing camp.  I’m having a lot of fun.  Ty’s going to do Karate!  I’m going back to softball tonight.  I’m going to bring back some memories.  Remember at the park when I climbed up in that think at the handicap playground?  Remember going to KFC and taking it to the park to eat?  Remember me spending the night when Ty was born?  Remember you going out to buy a new stuffed cat toy when I lost Simba, but he was in the crayon box?  I remember all of that.  I really do!  I hope you do to.

                                                                                                                                Love, Ashton

Dear Dad,

I can’t wait to start my golf lessons.  You seem real excited.  I just hope I’m not bad at it.

Next time you go golfing you can take me with you.  Mom and Bub have drove the golf cart.  I really would like to try it.  So I’ll talk to you later.  Bye

                                                                                                Your favorite daughter, Ronni

P.S. You are not the milk man and you do not drive the milk truck

Dear Mom,

You are a great mom.  If you wasn’t my mom, I would not be myself today.  When you help me with my homework it’s the best.  When I fall you were always there to pick me up.

                                                                                                                                Love, Adriana

P.S. I love you

Dear Uncle Dan,

I am having a good time at writing camp.  I do want to play Tiger Woods with you.  I really want to give you more characters in it.  I finally found a Wii.  I probably get it at the end of the month.  I hope Greg remembers.  I’m even getting a classic controller for it.

                                                                                                                                                    Love, Jordan

P.S. I’m getting tiger Woods 2007 for it.

Dear Cousins,

I’m fine for 7th grade.  I’m worried about my family in different ways.  You know, sickness and all.  But I’m worried about myself in 7th grade.  I don’t play sports and dad won’t let me.  I know now I want to play basketball for Logan Middle School, AKA LMS.

                                                                                                                    Your cousin, Jonathan

P.S. Basketball is my game forever
